Blaffer gallery, university of Houston

From 1990-93, I worked at the Blaffer Gallery, University of Houston. Thanks to support from the Warhol Foundation, I employed students to teach visitors through UHReach. I founded the program to focus on middle and high school students, working most closely with the inner city schools in the neighborhoods closest to UH. Through a partnership with the Houston Chronicle. teachers received preparatory packets including curricular plans and slides to prepare students prior to visits, and to provide follow-up art activities using supplies readily available in inner city classrooms. Selected schools (5 middle and 3 high schools) received classroom visits prior to and following class tours by trained UHReach Education Assistants. In year three, the program served over 20,000 participants, most of whom were in grades K-12.

The children’s museum of houston

From 1988-1990, I worked in the original location of The Children's Museum of Houston. First employed as a Research Assistant, Exhibitions Department, I worked with Michael Galbreith, Rhonda Pirtle and John Barber to maintain exhibitions, develop Omokunle, an exhibition focused on Nigerian culture, assisted with the travel of an exhibition on China and Oaxaca, Mexico, and a special advisory committee of children from the community. In 1989, I became the Administrative Assistant to the Executive Director/Receptionist/Rental Events Coordinator. In addition to providing support for Board activities and administrative needs, I assisted Executive Director Jane Jerry with inquiries on how to start a children's museum.
